Dennis Garden
Dennis Hope
Dennis’ garden was built in collaboration with the students at Xavier University. After a rough summer with a lot of drought, New Orleans saw excessive rains that washed away his hopes of watermelon. His fall garden is in production and we look forward to sharing the success with him soon. Dennis is in Polunsky Correctional in Livingston, Texas. He has spent decades in solitary confinement.
“Marigold reminds me of the sun, how it shines bright, whether I see it or not having been locked up so long here, I often drift over wires to thoughts of better days. Summer times we’d plant watermelon and cantalope from the seeds of the fruit itself. It was a great sense of accomplishment and a sweet treat.”
