Growing Change
Growing Change
Growing Change is an amazing project nestled in the hills of Scotland County North Carolina where youth and adults are coming together to flip a prison into a farm. Jackie Sumell met the founder, Noran Sanders at a Soros Justice Conference and knew immediately it was the right group and space to collaborate with. Growing Change will be growing a Solitary Garden in collaboration with Solitary Gardener, Kijana Tajiri Askari, a political prisoner who spent 27-years in solitary confinement at Pelican Bay and was one of the participants in the Prison Hunger Strike.
The Garrison’s first stop was Growing Change in North Carolina.
This was the fastest turn-around for a Solitary Garden in our history! Through the hard work and generosity of the young folks at Growing Change we completed the bed in 2-days, before hitting the road again. Unfortunately due to extreme flooding from Hurricane Frances shortly after, the bed has not been in production. We are looking forward to seeing the fruits of collaboration in Spring 2019.
